Sentinel Speed Camera

What is a Sentinel Speed Camera

This is a fixed speed camera which is mounted on a tripod that can be moved to various sites where it is suspected that there is a problem with speeding vehicles.  All sites have been approved by Thames Valley Police.

Where will the Camera be used

Several sites around Latimer and Ley Hill have been nominated, Botley Road, The Green, Rushmere Lane and Jasons Hill in Ley Hill.  If other sites that are not being monitored become a concern, then Latimer and Ley Hill Parish Council will ask for these sites to be nominated too.

When will the Camera be used We are sharing the camera with Chesham Town Parish Council and therefore the camera could be used at any time of the day and at random throughout the year.

How will the Camera be used The camera will be operated by volunteers who live within the Parish.  They will setup the camera with warning signs.  The camera will then record all vehicles that are speeding (photos and video).  Any vehicle that is not speeding then the camera will ignore it.

Thames Valley Police will be sent the data captured for processing.  Usually first time offenders are sent a warning letter advising the owner of the vehicle that it had been caught speeding with the date, time and location.   The letter will also state that if caught again anywhere within the Thames Valley Police area (Bucks, Berks and Oxon) then further proceedings may be taken.

Where has the camera been Each month results will be published on where the camera was located, date, times and how many vehicles have been reported to Thames Valley Police.

Volunteers required The more volunteers we have, the more often the camera can be in the two villages.  Our main aim is to educate drivers that speeding is not acceptable and the only way that most drivers will get the message is when they are caught on camera.

The camera is normally out between 1/2 hour and 2 hours at any one time at differing times of the day.  Following this, there is approximately one hour required to process the data and send to Thames Valley Police.  If you are interested in volunteering, we would be delighted to hear from you and you can either complete the form below or email the Parish Clerk –
